Industry Partner: Tennent’s

Tennent’s, one of the SLTA’s key industry partners, has experienced an uplift in sales of Tennent’s Lager in the first 150 outlets to receive its new fount and is on target to have around 8,300 founts in pubs, clubs and restaurants across Scotland by the end of the year

WITH 1,000 of its innovative new founts now installed in the Scottish off-trade Tennent’s Lager has revealed that in a trial of the first 150 outlets to receive the new fount, an impressive 4.4% average uplift in sales was recorded.

The trail compared figures from the 12-week period before and after installation. This 4.4% uplift, if applied across the entire Tennent’s estate, would equate to an estimated 4.4 million additional pints and £13.7 million through the tills of Scotland’s pubs if every Tennent’s pouring outlet took on the new fount.

Tennent’s has invested millions in the new fount, developed using cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and received “fantastic feedback from customers and consumers”.

The fount is “uniquely customisable” with operators having the option to select from a range of sleeves featuring iconic Tennent’s artwork. A first for the market, this feature allows the brand to tailor how Tennent’s is represented on the bar to each type of outlet and, more importantly, drinkers.

Of the 150 outlets trialled, 80% of operators found the design, shape and additional lighting of the fount particularly appealing. In an additional survey, 96% of licensees noted positive feedback from their consumers and regulars.

The Tam O’Shanter Inn in Ayr is the recipient of the 1,000th fount to be installed. Owner David Cowan said: “The new Tennent’s Lager fount has been a fantastic addition to the bar. Our regulars have all mentioned the eye-catching design and it’s become a real talking point for both staff and customers.

“We’ve definitely noticed an increase in pints of Tennent’s Lager being sold since receiving it which has been a huge benefit to the business.”

Alan Hay, on-trade sales director at Tennent’s, commented: “The standout and visibility of our new fount is exceptional and we are delighted how well it is performing across the licensed trade.

“It’s been great to hear the positive feedback from both customers and consumers on how much of a talking point it’s become in bars and how instantly recognisable the founts are for the brand. Supporting the on-trade and helping drive money into the tills of our customers will always be a priority for us and the new fount has certainly delivered on that score.”

The roll-out of the new Tennent’s Lager fount is ongoing with an estimated 8,300 founts expected to be in pubs, clubs and restaurants across Scotland by the end of the year.
