Moray Knockout Celebrations

Moray Knockout Celebrations

Moray Licensed Trade Association recently held an “Its a Knockout” competition at Gordon Castle,  Fochabers, to mark the 125th Anniversary of the Association.

The event was to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland and we had 13 teams taking part.   The teams on the day managed to donate £13.5K which was superb. The overall total with local companies sponsoring a team plus raffles should be in excess of £20K.   David McKenzie from Moray LTA President Graham Forbes’ bar “Legends”, in Forres, collected the most for an individual – £445.00. “The Brander Arms”, in Lossiemouth, won the competition to collect the most by a team – £4164.00.   Second came “The Braemou Inn”, Hopeman with £1341.50.

The event was run in Heats with the best four teams competing in the final.   The eventual winners were “Grant Arms 1” from their hotel in Fochabers, Second was “Craigenroan Bar”, Buckie.   Third was a joint team from the “Station Hotel”, Burghead, and “Midas Bar”, Elgin and a very close fourth was “The Braemou Inn”, Hopeman.

The weather turned on the Saturday after having a glorious week of sunshine. It was a complete washout with continuous rain all day. Still the teams just got on with the fun and thoroughly enjoyed the event.  Participants requested another event should be organised next year but, as Moray LTA Secretary, Ken Asher, explained, it only happens every 25 years and this was Moray LTA’s 125th Birthday Celebration.   Sincerely thanks were given by MLTA to Chivas for providing the excellent prizes and to all the local companies who donated sponsorship and raffle prizes.”
