New powers to put schools in charge of key decisions about a child’s education were announced by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.6 percentage points over the last quarter to 4.0%, equalling the figure for March to May 2008.

Over 750,000 homes and businesses can now connect to fibre broadband thanks to the £428 million Digital Superfast Broadband programme.
