SLTA Ratifies New Constitution

SLTA ratifies new constitution

A NEW operating structure for the SLTA has been drafted following ratification of the trade association’s new constitution at the recent EGM.

This new constitution, proposed and unanimously agreed by the Executive Committee, will enable the SLTA to have a non-executive board of directors and regional council whose members will work together on SLTA policy.

It follows recommendations by the SLTA’s independent external advisory group – presented at the AGM in March – and a consultation period.

An audit committee made up from suitably qualified members will now be appointed to oversee the SLTA’s investments.

Marshall Bain, president of the SLTA, said: “The proposed constitution will also open up stakeholder and supporter registration – this will bring the association a new generation of licensed premises owners and employees.

“The newly-proposed registered supporter category will be available to all individuals working or intending to work in the licensed trade industry.”

Bain pointed to the SLTA’s highly respected position within the industry and Government which had helped stem unneeded legislation and financial burdens that continue to make life more difficult for businesses in the licensed trade.

“As we all know, any achievements we gain for members are also passed on to the licensed trade in general,” he said. “That is why we have introduced a new registered supporter category – to encourage all in the trade to make a financial contribution in support of our endeavours.

“This category should broaden our scope to include all of our licensees, management, staff and students who want to pursue a career in hospitality. It also allows access to trade information, legislation, our newsletter and affordable online training programme.

“None of this can come to fruition without the support of our members – now stakeholders – who will oversee the future of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association.”
